If you are using the correct size bit with the correct technique, and it's a quality bit, you should never be stripping fasteners, no matter how cheap they are.

Using a torx bit instead is incorrect and really not a good approach. If the fastener is already partially stripped from a previous poor assembly, that may be a different story.

For dealing with partially stripped fasteners, or if your bit is slipping for any reason, there's an awesome product called 'Drive Grip anti-cam out fluid' which is a gritty paste that adds friction. This stuff is wonderful when you need it, it should be in every tasker's tool kit.I've read that it's exactly the same stuff as grinding paste, which is much less expensive, but this stuff comes in a small convenient tube, and you only need a tiny bit occasionally, so I think it's worth it.

FYI Wera makes hex bits that have a concave geometry designed to prevent stripping, they call it 'Hex-Plus'. This is similar I suppose to using torx bits, but this is a much better approach.
