Since nobody here seems to actually understand how Amazon logistics work, I'll try to explain what probably happened here.
You see those barcode stickers on the ESD wrapping? Those are ASIN stickers, product identifiers for Amazon. Those are used when the product's own UPC isn't in the system, or it's from a specific seller, or if it flat out doesn't have a UPC or ISBN (for books.)
Anyway, the fact that these hard drives have ASIN stickers on them means that someone in Stow, which basically "re-stocks the shelves," shat the bed by taking them out of their cardboard packaging (which had the UPC on it.) It would've been perfectly fine to ship with the cardboard box around it. This kind of shit happens all the time, either due to Pick or Stow, both being staffed by chimps with barcode scanners.
Also, hate to break it to you, but this definitely was a 3rd party seller! I looked it up. Who the hell is Dave Parkers?
