Thanks for the great writeup. I've owned several true class 1 dongles including this industrial LAIRD BRBLU03 and a Sena UD100 rated for 200m and 300m respectively. The Laird did get quite good range, but something about the Windows/Linux drives caused it to skip every few seconds. Tried on several different device's USB ports. The Sena didn't really provide increased range with common BT headphones and amplifiers. The longest range I ever got was from an old set of Motorola Buds SF500 which got excellent (~100ft) range even with cheap BT class 2 transmitters and my old Smartphones. I suspect many newer flagship Smartphones have Class 1 or at least very strong BT antennas as I tend to notice phones get longer range then common dongles.
