I actually JUST did this. I tried to keep to around $1000 for head to toe. I wanted to be “cheap” but not sacrifice safety, which is really hard. I felt like my choices weren’t as pricey as a lot of stuff I’ve seen out there, but still feel is good quality and will provide the safety and style I like.

I got the Speed and Strength jacket because it seems like a good cold and warm weather jacket with the zip in hoodie, has CE rated armor on spine, elbows and shoulder, water resistant (my only “meh” part of it) and I thought it looked cool.

I went back a forth a lot with the helmets, but I liked the AT950, it had good safety ratings, and I liked that I could flip up the front of the helmet if I needed to. Probably never will, but it’s a slick looking helmet.

The pants I cheaped out on the most. I liked the HAWK pants, but they were sold out, and the Alpha pants came up recommended. They have CE rated armor on knees and hips, are water proof, and again… look cool. The best part is that they were really cheap and I got all the safety I wanted out of them. If I end up riding a ton I’ll probably get in boot pants to replace these, but they will do for now.

For boots I had actually picked the Forma Adventure boots. But I went into a local bike shop and tried them on and they seemed like they didn’t have good ankle support at all. I’m 42 and starting to not feel invincible anymore so that’s a concern. The Tech 7 was $100 more, but I felt it was worth it if it saved me a broken ankle someday.

The gloves… don’t have much to say about them. They are quality and have some protection, but I have hand guards so I’m not too worried about that. Plan on mostly off-road.

Hope that helps! I felt that most of the stuff I purchased is “budget”, but good quality and more safe than the lower budget stuff. I didn’t want to compromise on safety, especially since I have 4 kids at home.
