Welcome to my AMA!

My name is Josh and I go by the pseudonym J.J. Thorn. I am thrilled to announce that the last book in my debut series is finally released! The book is ‘Goddess (The Weight Of It All)’ and it is the sixth and final book in my series.

Before I ramble on about myself, please know that you can find the book here:

For those who haven’t read or heard about the series, here’s a quick synopsis:

‘The Weight Of It All’ follows a boy named Terrence who is gifted the power to view weight by the Goddess. In a world where people are given affinities for cool things like swords, fire, and ice, he is initially underwhelmed to say the least… but over time his abilities grow, he Ranks up, and he comes to understand how powerful he really can be. Throughout the series, Terrence is used as the backdrop for a vast continent where dungeons, monsters, and the Goddess are all real.

And though Terrence is the focus of the story, the series is often told from a couple different perspectives. While Terrence learns about his abilities, his uncle Tom is a veteran dungeoneer followed through a dungeon crawl in the north. The story juxtaposes the newness of Terrence as he goes to a ‘magic’ school for Dungeoneers against the real-life threats facing a man who has spent years with his back against a wall. And while the first book is really an introduction to it all, the series covers a lot of ground as everyone grows stronger, people are lost, the whole continent goes to war, and Terrence must eventually face a challenge from the Goddess herself.

About me:

I’m a Canadian in Toronto who works as a Product Manager for a financial software company! By day I write technical requirement documents and by night I write about monsters and dungeons. Life is weird haha. I’ve always wanted to write books, and during the pandemic, as I sat in our tiny apartment with my then girlfriend, I finally got the courage and inspiration to write. (Shoutout to ‘Shovel in spades’ and ‘eye of Adventure,’ along with the many LitRPG I was reading at the time!) That was October 2020, and on January 1st, 2021, I published the first ‘The Weight Of It All’ titled ‘Heavy’.

I made several mistakes with my first book, and continue to make mistakes even now, but the process of creating these stories has been a true highlight of my life. To everyone who has read my series, thank you. Sure, there are some shitty parts (like the one-star reviews lol) but there are many amazing parts too (that I’d love to chat about!).

For my AMA I’m happy to talk about my books, my writing process, happy and sad parts of writing, the entertainment (manga, light novels, other LitRPG, television, anime, etc) I take inspiration from, my next major series ‘System Orphans’, marketing as a self-published author (shitty part #2), my future story ideas, my contract to turn the series into a manga, my love for art commissions, and anything else you can think of!

I only have two ground rules! 1: I won’t say anything bad about other stories or authors and 2: Please add spoiler tags if you’d like to include specific details about my series. Beyond that, I’m likely to answer any question.

Thanks in advance for your questions and I hope you all have an amazing holiday season!
