Honestly Peak should call out their factory as that's most likely bad apple in the senario. Doubt it was commissioned by Amazon, Im betting they just bought what was sold to them. Having a product manufactured in China means it's almost a guarantee your design will be ripped off and sold to other retailers at discount. Never seen an Amazon Basics product that wasn't just a rebranded existing offering from suppliers/manufacturers in China.

Peak had their original product ripped off immediately since they were produced in China. Peak tweaked their design a few times and the factory/factories just followed a long with the "one for me, one for you" model. Once your CAD files are there you're done if you have a viable and popular item.Why make one set of injection models or dies for a product when you can make two and charge the unknowing originator of the design. There are ruthless factories there. Here is one of the many clones of the original Peak design camera clip still available on Amazon, the same things can be found all over ebay and aliexpress.

I remember Peak running damage control shortly after they discovered the knockoffs with side by side comparisons trying to show how the clones cut corners and were inferior. They are no stranger to this. They've had many unique and clever designs that others saw $$$ in.

Amazon does allow for merchants to start up so quickly that by the time a company files complaints about copyright/trademark they close the account and start another. It's a real problem they need to address. This scenario is a bit different and im sure it's a matter of them buying a products from one of their suppliers that they were told is quite popular with good margins for them since the design and patterning was already figured out by the Peak team that contracted (most likely) the same manufacturer. Obviously for respect Amazon should drop their model.

TLDR: China manufacturing your product leads to intellectual theft.(Peak knows this) Amazon was probably oblivious to the clone and should drop the product and potentially the supplier. They also need to find a solution to copyright/trademark/intellectual property issues on their platform.
