So here’s my review of the g14 keyboard skin found on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08FWWXHV6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Looks: This keyboard looks good. I get a very “Macbook” vibe from it. I definitely prefer the color scheme with it on, rather than it off. That being said, you can tell it’s a keyboard cover. It is not a “per key” skin, it covers the entire thing, leaving an opaque film in between each key. At first glance you don’t really notice it, but it’s definitely there. The skin makes the backlight…honestly not very useful, which is a shame because the backlight already is pretty bad on this machine. The markings on the keys themselves are not opaque, they are white and the backlight does not go through them. You get some faint backlight from surrounding the keys, but honestly it just makes it really hard to see the keys in the dark. So, it solves the color scheme problem, but actually makes the keyboard backlighting worse. Overall, though, it looks good. It looks like the normal keyboard, so if you hate the monotone color of the keyboard and chassis, then this might be the fix for you. If you’re looking to solve the backlighting issue, then just know it does not do that.

Feel: Okay, so the feel is…different. You do not get the same typing experience as you do with the normal keyboard. The keyboard cover is a silicon/soft plastic, so everything feels much more mushy. The key switches are also muted, so it does make the typing experience much quieter. Key travel and force is still the same though. The best way to describe it is there is a thin layer of silicone over your keyboard. The membrane in between each of the keys is lower than all the keys, so that in itself feels very good and well done. The best way for me to summarize the typing experience is it just feels different. Not better, not worse, just different. For some actual data, I used this website as a typing test: https://www.typingtest.com/result.html?acc=91&nwpm=90&gwpm=98&ncpm=452&gcpm=492&dur=60&time=60&chksum=41145&unit=wpm&kh=998&td=null&err=8&hits=492&textfile=sentences.txt. I did a test with the skin on and with the skin off. Don’t you know, they both came out the same. 90wpm with 8 mistakes.

Gaming: I have an external keyboard so I don’t know how well this will hold up under gaming. The silicone is grippier and based on the typing experience, may actually help with gaming. I get the feeling it will get warm, though.

Overall: The looks are spot on, aside from the fact that you can tell there is a silicon mesh in between each key. The darker keys do look really good on the lighter chassis. The backlight problem is actually worse with it on. The typing experience is different, not better, not worse, just different. Overall, for $4.00 and shipping, it was worth it. I’m the kind of person that likes to change things up visually pretty often, so having the option to take it on and off at will (and still have it fit snuggly) is a major win in my book. Let me know if you have any questions! By the way, I typed out this review with it on the entire time.
