the heating pad isn't the question here, it's "what thermostat should I get?"

There are a couple on Amazon that are pretty good and are well known in the hobby. the BN-Link is the one I have and use still for over 2 years and has done well.

My house was 42F last winter winter. I used a fish tank heater + heating pads to keep my brew as close to 80F as possible.

However, I wouldn’t recommend using a heating pad in temps above the 50s. They emit a ton of constant, variable heat and it’s really easy to accidentally roast your brew. Try one of those reptile tank heaters that stick to glass. They’re way more stable. That’s what I used throughout the summer. You can buy a temperature control unit and set it to about 78F. That way, it’ll switch off it it gets too warm. They’re pretty inexpensive too. Grabbed mine on Amazon.

Edit with links to the products I’m referring to. I’m on mobile so forgive the sloppiness.

reptile pad

add a $20 thermostat to that to keep it from getting to hot.

so I found this Thermostat probe placement : leopardgeckos (reddit.com)

which looks like they used the temp controller you would use for a heating pad and just stuck the probe where the heat would hit the substrate? if you don't have one of those for your heat mat [ignore me if you do sorry] I use this one Amazon.com: BN-LINK Digital Heat Mat Thermostat Controller for Seed Germination, Reptiles and Brewing Breeding Incubation Greenhouse, 40-108°F, 8.3A 1000W ETL Listed : Pet Supplies

they don't have any comments yet but keeping my eye on it. for now I'm just checking it with a temp gun 3x daily to make sure it's maintaining proper temp but I'd like to not worry about it anymore!

This is the thermostat we use to control the heat, we have it connected to a regular ceramic heat lamp

This is the filter I bought. it handles 2 printers. It is in a small closet at the bottom of the stairs (no outside ducting). Probably 6ft x 5ft x 4ft. right now the filter unit is $40 off ( use coupon on amazon site)

like on of those UV red lights? I personally just use a heat lamp, no light or UV emitted from it. This is the lamp I use, the bulbs, and the thermostat

I just successfully inoculated a bunch of bags and moved them to fruiting conditions today. The differences were that 1. I used Seeds of Change brown rice on sale at Sprouts for 99 cents! 2. I used a liquid culture syringe from https://www.altitudebrew.com/collections/mushrooms/products/liquid-mushroom-culture-spores-medicinal they shipped to CA, so that was helpful. 3. I also flame sterilized my needle and my hole puncher for each bag (and had tape all pre-prepped). 2 hole punches did better than one hole punch. 4. I got a way to regulate heat for consistancy. https://www.amazon.com/Century-Thermostat-Controller-Germination-40-108%C3%82%C2%B0F/dp/B01I15S6OM/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=34H7HWRTDF2J&keywords=matt+heat+thermostat&qid=1684556843&sprefix=matt+heat+thermostat%2Caps%2C168&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyUlNLU1cwRUlQUERLJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzA3NzI1MlE0TTlHVjU0NVZTTSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNjEwNDgzMTlEUVE2VzVSNTVSMiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
