I bought a three pack of these off-brand BamBody period underwear from Amazon, and they've worked great for me as backup protection and for use on my lighter flow days. I use a Nixit Cup, and while I've never had leaks with it, I still worried about the potential for leaks and wanted an option to replace my need for disposable liners. These underwear feel like normal cotton type underwear minus the leak-proof area being a little thicker than the rest of the underwear. Doesn't feel bulky, the material is breathable, and the leak-proof area is absorbent enough to keep you feeling dry if you leak, use on a light flow day, or wear prior to the start of your cycle just to catch it when it comes. I sometimes even wear them during my "fertile" days (I have an IUD, so no actual fertile days) since my discharge tends to be a little excessive those days.
$35 for a three pack was way more reasonable for me than $25-35 for a single pair of Thinx or similar name brand. These work just fine. I typically wear a size 7 in underwear (39" hip measurement), and the Medium for the BamBody period underwear fits me fine. The waistband hits just below my bellybutton, which I prefer because I do have a little bit of a pooch for my lower belly, and I hate how pants tend to pinch it. The midrise underwear just covers me better. BamBody does offer sportier looking hipsters with similar absorbency. I got some of those styles too, but I prefer the overnight midrise style.
I've also tried the styles that Amazon has with the sort of gray colored inner liners. They're thinner feeling than the BamBody, but the leak-proof liner is kinda plasticy feeling. Once the liner area gets moist, the fabric isn't breathable enough to wick away the moisture. Not good if you tend to exercise during your period. Also, beware farting in those gray liner undies. The plastic texture, since it doesn't breathe, will contain your farts. I kid you not - my underwear felt like an inflated balloon the first time I tried to toot with them on. Did not expect it, so I cracked up laughing when it happened.
