If you want a budget option that'll hold up you can get a qanba drone from Amazon for $56, it's great to learn on if you're just starting out, and after swapping out the stock lever for a jlf and the buttons you can have a respectable travel stick if you ever decide to upgrade. Modding the stick requires no soldering, literally just taking out some screws and swapping out a wire on the pcb. This could be an option if you want something to mess around with right now that you can upgrade later.

Otherwise my advice would be to buy a madcatz TES+, that's sitting at around $100 used right now and it frequently goes on sale at Newegg.com for even less than that usually bundled with a game. Last time was around August/November and it dropped to $86 I believe. Keep an eye out and you can grab a really great stick for dirt cheap.
