There are sort of two types of gloves out there.
There's super cheap, made in china, 10-for-a-dollar gloves that are very thin, basically disposable. Then there are some high-end, fancy, serious gloves with velcro straps and padding and of course logos.
You probably want the cheaper ones. They get the job done, but they're thinner. They wear out faster, but you'd be putting a different kind of wear and tear on them so maybe it won't be so bad.
They don't fit great, at all. So if being able to e.g. pinch the string is important, you probably want fingerless gloves. But it's more like $20 instead of $1. https://www.seyberts.com/assorted-billiard-gloves
