Here is a non-affiliate link for you all:
http://www.amazon.com/LifeStraw-LSPHF017-Personal-Water-Filter/dp/B006QF3TW4/
OP's link take you to a different sub, then to amazon itself....it looks like /u/leesedona is using their /raredeals sub (purposely not linked) to use affiliate links with short-links to trick you. Definitely violating reddit policy, many amazon related subs have been banned for this trickery over the years.
I would also argue those water clarification tablets. I used them once while on a long hike and boy did they give me the shits. It looked so much like curry it could've fooled an Indian. Not to mention it makes the water taste like shit. I would recommend some lifestraws or something like this and a few of its filters.
LifeStraw is currently at $15, though it will end at 3pm EST.
Edit: Yeah, having read into it, skip this one!
into this and its really easy. above the comment box there is a little blue word that says link. write a word or sentence, highlight it with your mouse, then click the "link button. now copy/paste the link into the box that pops up. that easy. it makes for much cleaner comments and a much cleaner website
Lifestraw for $2 less

At the bottom of the page under the "Frequently Bought Together" it shows the "LifeStraw Personal Water Filter"
The diagrams on the filter just seem...wrong.
I have been putting together these two Go Bags over the last month or so to store in each of my two cars.
The bags I used are Red Rock Outdoor Gear Rover Sling Pack (Coyote and Olive Drab)
They are probably about half finished at the moment, so this is the first tier update on the kits!

Would the Life Straw that I have work?
Grab yourself one of these or one of these. They will filter bacteria and Protozoa no problem, basically never need to be replaced, are small and light enough to fit in your purse or bag and are a much more affordable option to bottled water in times like these where there may be shortages. Life Straw also makes personal water bottles and pitchers for your fridge that are reasonably affordable.
The Ready America was rated pretty badly. I'm just opting to build my own, based on the risk factors for my area (Earthquake, Wildfire, Flood, Pandemic).
Here's the list I worked up, based on what is in the other kits. It's important not to skimp on quality if you're really thinking about survival, and on the upside, some of it can be useful for camping.

Hey bro, this is all you need:
Great idea! You should add one of these In there http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006QF3TW4
Forget the Mylar Blankets and get yourself some Wool Blankets instead. They'll insulate and keep you warm even when wet. Mylar doesn't insulate, it just reflects infrared light. It's a nice supplement to a good sleeping bag, and great as a heat reflector inside a lean-to or on a windbreak opposite from you at a campfire, but they're no substitute for an actual blanket.
Otherwise, I would recommend the following:
