My DIY set up is a decorative vase, of 1.5 gallons of water with a plate on top to reduce water loss. You’ll need sea salt to increase the excess waters salinity, and it’s also handy to have on hand incase of spills. If your buying a Sea Monkey kit with water conditioning packets, include the volume of water the packet recommends in your calculations for salinity in your tank.
If you use a heater make sure your tank meets the requirements, and pay attention to water loss, too little water can overheat your monkeys. If you use a heater, you need an air pump to circulate the water and evenly distribute heat. The pump will most likely be too strong for sea monkeys so try using a needle to poke holes in the tubing, do not tie a knot in the line, this will over work your pump and it will die, your water flow stops, and you got over heated monkeys. But yeah, if you got a container for 1-1.5 gallons of water, an air pump, and a heater, it’s pretty hands off from there! The food lasts a long time, but if you run out you can also try Spirulina powder
Also for the lighting, my monkeys don’t like direct light, I think it triggers a prey response, that they’re too vulnerable, for the most part I keep them in whatever lighting I’m comfortable with, which is usually darkness. But when the sun is bright, or the lamp is on, I try to give them a shaded area to hang in if the light is bothering them. So basically I cover half the tank the a napkin or whatever’s handy.
This is what I’ve learned as a Sea Monkey parent! 😌Go forth and spiral down the monkey path of crazy Sea monkey community! And def post pics of your set up! I wana see them jittery babies!
