FYI, if you read the original thread, OP was using a cheap knockoff cable they bought on Amazon.

Amazon did step up though, and is offering to pay costs required to fix OP's phone.

Also, you can buy good lightning cables on Amazon, that are cheaper and more durable than original Apple cables. You just have to make sure they're MFi certified and that the reviews are good. If the cable is too cheap, you should avoid it or things like this will happen.
