I think the Winix 5500-2 (which has a carbon pellet filter) is also on sale for $118. The nice thing about the Winix is that you can replace the carbon filter without having to replace the entire filter. With the higher end Coway Airmegas (Mighty S, 230/240/250, 300, etc), the carbon and HEPA are one filter (ie you have to replace the set to refresh the carbon.)
From my understanding, the carbon pellet filters dont last nearly as long as the HEPA, so being able to swap them out separately would be nice. With that being said, I'm not sure how effective they are in VOC removal (I own several Coway 250s.) There might be a few ounces worth of charcoal pellets in the filter.
EDIT: Some insight from the folks at Wirecutter.
After a TON of research, I ended up getting one of these:
Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier with True HEPA, PlasmaWave and Odor Reducing Washable AOC Carbon Filter
I like it enough I'm thinking of getting another one or two for my other rooms. It's pretty quiet and I think it does a good job. It isn't the cheapest nor the most expensive but it is effective.
I don't know the question to your answer. However, since you're on budget like myself, I use this and it does a great job.
It has a HEPA filter and it is for large spaces.
Some of these are already on the way:
