It depends on the filament. PLA and it’s variants are pretty forgiving. For those I just store them in some 4 mil 12 x 15 inch plastic zip bags I got on Amazon:

They last forever so I figure the 100 I bought are a lifetime supply. I toss a 20g pack of desiccant in each bag just for insurance. Just seal the desiccant back in the bag while using the filament. You can probably find them in smaller quantity but for commonly useful stuff like this I like to get a bunch and not have to worry about it for a long time.

For more moisture sensitive filaments, like PETG and ABS I alternate between the same bags as above and just trying to squeeze most of the air out and using these

Vacuum bags, again with a pack of desiccant thrown in. They are kind of a pain to pump down with the little hand pump though. And so far even the more sensitive stuff I’ve stored in the plain zip bags seems to be printing fine. I’m thinking of putting together a little setup with a cheap vacuum pump to do the vacuum in future.

I bought a SUNLU filament dryer just in case, but so far only used it once to try it out since everything seems to be printing fine. Might be more important if I try some Nylon filament.

I have some of the cereal containers, but they take more room to store and get spends if you have a bunch of filament colors and such to store. Where I use them is for the pickier filaments I drop the reel in one with some desiccant and a little hole for the filament to come out and feed the printer that way. The reels seem to turn just fine sitting in the container with no fancy spool holders of any kind. And you can have a few like this if you need to switch between a few filaments frequently. I usually even put PLA. In these while printing just because it’s a convenient way to hold the reel and keep dust off it while out of the bag.
