To answer your question in regards to "The Tome of Syyx" in an unbias manner, its best to look at the reviews from both readers (amazon) as well as editorial reviews
Fans of the whole LitRPG genre, Dungeons and Dragons, and fantasy fans will find something to love here – and even those who are not well versed in these subjects can find a wonderful introductory experience of them in The Tome of Syyx.
“This is a Dungeons and Dragons adventure. It might be something people less familiar with DnD would overlook … the description of the use of Ki, or spell slots, or something that looked a lot like the warcaster feat... Many characters also seemed to have very clearly defined and recognisable classes and races, doing things that fit those as by game rules.”
My opinion:
In the spirit of full transparency, the LitRPG elements within my book are very light, placing the book somewhere between the traditional Epic Fantasy and LitRPG genres, and may not feel like a true LitRPG for some of the more enthusiastic fans of the sub-genre.
There are no character stats, level-ups, or portal mechanics into a gaming world from the “real world” that are typical with LitRPG books.
However, there are other GameLit elements typical of the genre. I use a D&D magic system and character classes, which in many cases are explicit in the storytelling.
There are illustrated maps and even bounty posters (one of the bounty posters is linked in the description) within the book that are akin to a D&D style "handout" that DMs give players during the course of a campaign to aid in the tabletop Adventure.
It is a very D&D-inspired story, and some readers do put it into the LitRPG category as highlighted by both the Manybooks and the Reedsy Reviews.
For readers that have read Battle Mage Farmer and Hedge Wizard and feel they don't have enough LitRPG elements to be classified as true LitRPG then they will feel the same about this book as well.
