From an electronic tech view, comparing RAM size to determine product age is useless.

Usually, that is true. However, in the case of a phone/tablet SoC nearly everything released in 2010-2011 had 512MB of memory or less, and in 2013 all the SoC's had moved on to 2GB of memory.

A car stereo does not need much RAM to work well.

This car stereo is running Android 11 (released in 2020). This version of Android supports 1GB of memory, but the OEM must sent some flags to make it work.

From https://source.android.com/docs/compatibility/11/android-11-cdd

[7.6.1/H-9-1] MUST declare the feature flag

android.hardware.ram.low

I'm sure the manufacture has done this, but seeing it as an extra requirement to work on low spec hardware tells me less work has gone in to testing it.

They then spend a little more on a better screen (since that is what is seen) and you get a below average performance with a slightly average screen. But the product has not been sitting on a shelf for 10 years. It is new just old tech.

You think they invested a single dollar revising the screen after the initial release and then retained the words "Capacitive HD Touch Screen" in their product description? With no mention of the resolution at all?

Here's the product https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09W2MGKV6/

The only mention of resolution is in the Amazon Product info at the bottom next to Scanner Resolution "1080p"
