Haven't tested that configuration, but I know it will still work with the wifi box disconnected and the cable patched over to the board with the microUSB port but never tested it over the USB connection with the WiFi box still connected. It's possible that it could work, but also possible that if the controller detects the board still connected that it won't accept connections over the USB connection.
