Seriously, read it or most the OT, for that matter. I agree with you on Job being amazing and there are other parts of the OT like Genesis, Ecclesiastes, Jonah, and others that I would put up there, but a lot of the OT is very tedious to read, especially compared to the Book of Mormon. Take it from someone who has read all of both. The Monty Python parody of biblical writing is not far off.
If you are going to compare reading the BoM to reading Levitcus along with some Jewish commentary (I recommend the Jewish Study Bible), then it is only fair to read the BoM with some commentary as well. In fact, that may help you address your issues a lot. I highly recommend Grant Hardy's Understanding The Book of Mormon. Terryl Given's A Very Short Introduction is also good. And Bradley J. Kramer's rabbinic approach to the Book of Mormon Beholding the Tree of Life is excellent and probably right up your alley. He hosted an AMA about it here
