I'll try my best to recommend some books in "chronological order", But take in consideration all in all most of them are connected and none of them are for a specific timeline.
- Pre WW1 era, Armenians under the Ottoman empire:
- The Kurds, The Armenian question, and the history of Armenian-Kurdish relations(This gives a very general and broad overview of Armenian-Kurdish relationships from the 14-15th century to 1918): This link Is a PDF version, but the pages are a bit messed up its like page 1-4-3-2. The book talks about, the settlements of the Kurds in the Armenian highlands, slavery of the Armenians, and the oppression by the Kurds orchestrated by the Turk sultans and vizirs. And imho gives pretty good representation about what the Armenians and other Christians went through from Kurds and Circassians and Chechens
- I found By far Euphrates, but I haven't read it if you would like to give it a try.
- The Armenian Revolutionary Movement, the development of Armenian political Parties in the 19th century, here. just to note that before the ARF there were the Armenakans that started the movement. So it's not just about the ARF. PS: the book includes clashes between the Turks and Armenians)
- Turkey and the Armenian Atrocities by Edwin Munsell Bliss (originally published in 1896). Until now this book is considered to be the most accurate and full description of the Hamidian massacres of 1894-1896 by a Western traveler. and Letters from the Scenes of the Recent Massacres in Armenia by J. Rendel Harris & B. Helen Harris. The book was published in 1897 and contained eyewitness accounts by British missionaries about the Hamidian massacres of 1896. (From Armeniapedia.org , There are a lot of external links that you can find here that leads to books)
- Not a book but a testimony of the Adana massacre of 1909.
- Also a brief history of the creation of the ARF.
- you
- During WW1 (specifically the genocide):
- Taner ackam's a shameful act. and Killing orders: Telegrams... I know most Turks don't respect him but these books should still be mentioned.
- The defense of Van, about the resistance of the Armenians in the city of Van.
- The burning Tigris. An NYT bestseller, it is a summary of all the massacres from 1890 to 1915 and the resistances.
- I ask you, ladies and gentlemen, is more of a biography by the author and what he went through during the genocide.
- Garegin Nzdheh, one of the most well known Armenian fighters (the so-called Nazi collaborator) this was the only book found in English.
- The forty days of Musa Dagh book, which is the resistance of Musa dagh.
- The book of whispers, documented stories of witnesses.
- Some of the resistances that i didnt find in english are noted in the aformentioned books, like Sasun, zeitun, Urfa, etc...
- If you want a good source on the numbers of dead in the fights and massacres there is Rudolph Rummel a former professor of the University of Hawaii, this is an excerpt of his book, where he talks about the number of dead by turkey's ottoman soldiers, and Kemalist nationalists, as well as how many Turks died from Armenians.
