I've been using this case for a couple months now. The Tough Case is very comparable to the Commuter in size. Lower price and pretty durable. It won't slip off easily. There is a rubber inlay and a plastic shell that clips over it. The bottom part that is near the home button is rubber and will bend a bit so you don't need to worry about it getting in the way. Volume and power button has a good action to it and requires minimal effort to press. There's a nice hefty lip on the front so you can place the phone face down without the screen touching anything. No port flaps like the Otterbox Defender, so they're all exposed; a con if you wanted that level of protection. The exposed rubber surfaces are minimal so there isn't too much lint collection from keeping it in your pocket. The plastic shell has a grip pattern to help with the traction to a table, it's not perfect, but there is some grip to it. It's more for your hands than anything. Definitely lets you grip the phone better.

The only downside I have is that I bought 2 of these. One for my brother's pebble blue and one for my white. I ended up having to switch the cases around. For some reason the power button kept getting caught under the rubber and plastic shell. I'm not sure if it was a manufacturing defect with the phone, the case, or just installation error. Both cases worked fine on his phone, but only one for mines. I think the white versions of the S3 are slightly different in hardware. My buttons had a lower actuation force when compared naked side by side. Could be a Samsung quality control issue.

Haven't used it with a screen protector. Check out some youtube videos for some reviews for cases as well. I remember looking at all the ones you mentioned, including an Incipio case before settling on the Casemate Tough.
