So the video is correct to a point. An Oreck XL designed over 30 years ago IS better at cleaning carpets than a cordless Dyson and a Dyson Ball, but that's because Dysons aren't the best things out there.
If you want a good vacuum for cleaning long pet hair off of carpets I would recommend a vacuum with a powered brushroll, manual carpet height adjustment, and an easy to remove brushroll because all brushes get some hairwrap.
The easy recommendation is the Sebo Felix $699. Not only is it good for carpets, it's also great for hard floors. You can just turn off the brushroll for hard floors but if you swap on the Premium Parquet Brush with the front brush removed it will gulp up hair and then sweep behind it. Cons are the Felix is kinda top heavy and the hose is short. Pros are BIFL comes with a 10 year warranty, will last 20 years, great suction and cleaning power, quieter than the average vacuum, easy to fix and maintain. There's the Sebo Dart $549, which is the Felix minus swivel steering and the Parquet Brush if you want something less expensive, but the swivel steering makes the Felix a standout.
If you want a lightweight vacuum just for carpets go for the Oreck Hepa Bagged $369 or Oreck Hepa Swivel Bagged $414. Both of these Orecks are the newer designs they add a 2 speed switch low is better for hardfloors, led headlights, lifetime belts (instead of the stretch belts on the Oreck XL), they're better sealed and the Hepa Swivel can swivel. Still no hose or tools on any lightweight Oreck upright.
