Edit: actually I have this one, I have another “Koa” cheap model from a different company but the Hricane I have is sapele.

Regarding the Koa, I think it’s possible that it’s real Koa, I have a budget uke that was labeled as Koa, but it was a really poor cut. It had some ugly marks, the color was weird and inconsistent, but it sounds surprisingly good for a cheap uke. I can believe that it’s actually Koa, because it seems reasonable that a really ugly cut would go for much cheaper since most good companies won’t bother with it.

As for Hricane, my sapele uke is not bad, it’s definitely a step up from most Amazon ukes. My problem with it was that the gloss is a bit heavy handed, which makes it look amazing but seems to affect the highs too much for my liking. It doesn’t really ring out as well as a similar uke without the gloss.
