- The reason I want/need to keep the head unit is to keep things simple. Since my car is newer I have to use this to keep my car chimes and the head unit is going to receive that signal. If I don't have a head unit it'll get more complicated.
- Are you going to be receiving the calls on your Nexus 7? If yes, then receiving calls and automatically stopping the music shouldn't be a problem. If you are using your cell phone separately, then the system won't know anything about a call. Unless, the head unit prioritizes bluetooth signals, which I doubt.
- What do you mean by OTG power?
- What kind of controls do you want on your steering wheel? Why?
- I don't like to over charge my devices with batteries so when they are fully charged I unplug them. In my diagram I will have accessible USB power that I can unplug from the cigarette lighter.
*Polarized Sunglasses will work as long as your polarized lens are not 90 degrees to the polarization of the lcd screen on the Nexus. It will be dimmer though if you are close to that 90 degrees. This will be the case no matter the screen you decide to use in your car. You may need to not use polarized sunglasses in your car.
- The adapter that I have listed on Amazon has a 5v 2.2A usb port that is perfect for tablets (cell phones usually use ~1A).
- I have read that tablets can accept up to 5 signals (less if they transfer a lot of data).
- I don't want to control the head unit once I have it set up. I will have a remote that could work if I put a window in my dash bezel. I have read that some apps let you control the head unit, but I didn't read much because it didn't apply to my situation.
- I never used a DAC before. Why do you want one?
- There are bluetooth steering wheel controls that interface with certain head units, but again I didn't read about since I don't want them in my car. I just want a physical volume control knob.
- Do you actually listen to the radio? If it wasn't so easy to keep my existing FM source (with the head unit) I would simply abandon it because I don't use it much.
- Keep in mind that this touch screen might be laggy. One major reason people use the Nexus 7 is because it is fairly cheap and has a super responsive touch screen. My brother bought an after market touch screen system for his car and it sucked pretty hard (like 4 years ago so maybe it isn't a problem anymore). Keep that in mind or just look at reviews to see what other people say.
